Day One:
We are off! It was a hot day when we finally pulled away from the church and on our way to
Dulles then on to Scotland. We
arrived at the airport with our pretickets in hand and baggage in tow, ready to
board. However, unbeknownst to us, the Lord had
other plans for us. After finding out that our initial flight to Newark, NJ was
cancelled and several hours of discussion as to what to do as a result, we finally found
ourselves having to stay overnight at a local hotel and finding something to eat. In
all of this apparent disruption of plans and frustration, our team not only held its cool
but also made a very positve impression on all those with whom they came in contact while
in one of the nation's largest airports. In fact, I learned a very valuable lesson
myself (among many for the night, I assure you). While standing outside awaiting the
vans to pick us up to take us to the hotel for the night, I shared with the team my
apologies that things had not worked out according to plan. Jay then responded,
"But they did." Tired and taken a little aback, I said, "They did
what?" "They did work according plan, according to His plan," Jay
said with one of his award-winning smiles. Realizing that he had gotten the best of
me, I told him, "OK, OK, Its a reminder to me that you've been listening too closely
to my sermons and I've been teaching you too well. I'd best be more careful in the
future lest it come back to haunt me again!" (to which we had a good laugh). At
least, the prospect of a good meal and a good night's sleep would help us work through the
decisions we need to make regarding the reworking of our airline flight to Scotland.
We will no doubt get there for our mission work next week; now its just a matter of
when.
